Mike's Bird Stuff

I am interested in birds and I thought I might be able to share with others details of birds seen at each spot along the road to Ulaan Baatar.  My preferred method of recording is by spreadsheets and there is a link below to a file sharing site where you can view my spreadsheets.

If anyone wants any more detail of bird sites etc they can email me at the address shown on the Home page or leave a comment.

I am planning to record birds more or less using the same methods as I have done on my surveys in Arabia. This includes regular walked censuses in the early morning from the camp site, recording the site details and habitats and the numbers and diversity of species at each.  Over the 8000+ miles (13000+ km) to Ulaan Baatar it should be quite interesting to see how things evolve.  I shall also keep general records as I am going along or what we see on the road and at individual bird sites during the day.

There is a cumulative listing of the birds seen in each country on one of the worksheets.

The link to my spreadsheets should be automatic.  The site is a little bit of a pain to get to first time as there is a sign up procedure involving emails.  It is free but at every key stroke the software and site owners want you to sign up to their 'premium' software.  The plan is to update the spreadsheet every few days by replacing it with one of a similar name, probably with a suffix indicating its date.  Watch this space for further advice.

Please note that waypoints will be posted to the spreadsheet periodically, when I download them from my GPS.  There could well be several days before this is done but rough coords are given in the spreadsheets for quick reference.
